Course description

THE COURSE – YEAR 12

Media Products 30% (Exam)

An exploration and analysis exploring how media products are used by institutions to construct different representations, and how the media audiences interpret these products. The second part of the exam uses aspects of the theoretical framework to analyse and evaluate your own cross-media productions (Practical Production).

Students will produce a Blog & Vlog covering:   TV, Print, and Online News reporting.

 

Media in a digital age 40% (Exam)

An exploration of how to analyse the ideas and arguments from debates about the media, these debates will be drawn from a historical perspective, the digital age and global media.

Students will produce a Blog, Vlog & Podcast covering:   Magazines, Radio & Film which

include a focus on Hammer Film Studios, as well as the Music & Video Games Industry and TV Drama.

THE COURSE YEAR 12 & 13

PRACTICAL PRODUCTIONS 30% (Coursework)

Creation of a promotional campaign through a convergent cross-media production that consists of three linked media products in response to briefs set by OCR, which will always be drawn from moving image, print and online media.

Practical work to include:   
 Photography and digital image editing.
Camera work and directing
Editing using digital technology
Graphic design of titles and idents
Sound, mixing & score composition
Set, costume & props design
Story boarding & scripting
Website design and construction.

 

Plan, film & edit:                     
A short piece of moving image.
A piece of print media.
A website.

THE COURSE – YEAR 13

Media Products Continued 30% (Exam)
Preparation for case study analysis and critical evaluation.
Media in a digital age continued 40% (Exam)
Preparation for case study analysis and application of media theory.

 

Entry requirements

5 A* - C Grades, including Grade 9 – 4 English and Mathematics

GCSE English Language & Literature A* - C

Assessment

Year 13:               
1 Hour 45 Minute exam in June – Media Products (30%).
2 hour exam in June – Media in a digital age (40%).
