Sociology AS at Warlingham School

Course description

Sociology The AS/A2 levels are based on developing students knowledge and understanding of sociological thought, methods of sociological enquiry and two major themes which will run throughout the course. These are: (i) socialisation, culture and identity. (ii) social differentiation, power and stratification. The course is divided into three units. Families and Households Education Coursework Task : Sociological Methods Assessment Format The assessment objectives are common to both AS and A2 Level although their weighting differs. The AS assessment unit places greater emphasis on the skills of knowledge and understanding. Unit 1 - 171/2% Unit 2 - 171/2% Unit 3 - 15%

Minimum requirement of Grade B in English Language

Future opportunities

You could take this course to complement other advanced level courses or to prepare for the A2 part of an Advanced GCE in Sociology, which could lead you onto higher education in one or more of the Social Sciences such as Sociology, Development Studies, Anthropology or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to Sociology and people such as a Social Worker, Teacher, Social Researcher or a more general position working within the Social Services. You could also go straight into a job as the AS GCE is a recognised qualification that will help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for, especially in the health and social care sectors.
