ICT BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate at Portsmouth College

Course description

This course provides an introduction to ICT systems and applications and will enable you to develop skills in a wide range of software applications.  You will also have the opportunity to work with and upgrade hardware components.  Progression to employment in technical roles in the ICT industry, or on to level 3 study, is possible with a merit grade and a good, level 2 English qualification.

Course content

This is a highly practical course which will enable you to develop and apply ICT knowledge in realistic settings.

The Award and the Certificate cover three core units;

  1. The Online World
  2. A Digital Portfolio
  3. Technology Systems (Certificate only)

The Extended Certificate has a further four compulsory units.

Some of the specialist/optional units available include;

  • Website Development
  • Installing and Maintaining Computer Hardware
  • Installing and Maintaining Computer Software
  • Creating Digital Graphics

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at an average of grade E, to include English Language.

Assessment

There is a mixture of assessment methods on this course.  The majority of units are internally assessed but for some units you will be required to take an exam, set and marked by the exam board.
