Applied ICT at The Beaconsfield School
The new WJEC GCE in Applied ICT provides students with a wholly new perspective on the world of Information and Communication Technology. The unit titles which include eBusiness, eProject and eStudio, provide a glimpse of the radical nature of this qualification.
Students will need to operate within an environment of ideas and demonstrate an understanding of ICT spanning state of the art applications to the complexities of implementing real web sites that are linked to databases.
Students will complete four units over the two year course.
Year 12 - AS Level
Unit 1 ebusiness looks at a mixture of theory and practice of using ICT. Whether it is ICT within small-to-medium enterprises through to ICT in the home. In Unit 2 eSkills students will be given real life scenarios to develop their own solutions in either MS Excel or Access and reporting back to the employers.
Year 13 - A2 Level
In Unit 5 eProject students will have to work as part of a team in order to solve an ICT issue. This unit focuses on project management and students will assign themselves different roles within a group setting. Unit 6 involves pupils working from a brief in order to put their own mark onto a product or service. Previous briefs have included branding and marketing their own sugar-free drink, devising and merchandising a children’s book and the characters therein, and creating advertising and merchandise for a chosen tourist area.
You will require 5 A*-C grades including GCSE English and Maths but also, due to the nature of the course and the high level of skills you will learn, you will also need a grade C in GCSE ICT.
