Business Level 3 Pathway to Apprenticeship at Warwickshire College Group

Course description

This course, which combines  Accounting and Business will enable you to take up an Level 3 Apprenticeship in Accounting.

Accounting and Business are some of the most useful subjects that you can study at college. The average person spends roughly 45 years in employment so having an understanding of the business world is vital. This course provides an insight into how businesses operate; and importantly, how they are financed

AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting
This course will teach you the basic accounting and financial skills required in business. You will develop various finance administration skills such as sales and general ledgers, double-entry bookkeeping and basic costing principles and purchase.  You will be taught through a series of workshops, guest speakers and visits. You will work in groups, pairs and independently, contributing to seminars and presentations to demonstrate what you have learnt.

BTEC L3 Extended Certificate in Business 
This 1 year qualification is a practical, work-related course where the assessment is based on investigating real life businesses. You will have to research different companies using a variety of methods, such as the Internet, or conducting interviews with business owners. 

Entry requirements

You will need 5 GCSEs at grade 5 or C and above including Maths and English, or a Distinction in a Level 2 qualification and Maths and English GCSE grade 5 or C or Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths and English.
You will have a positive school or college reference with good levels of attendance and punctuality.


Accounting is assessed through Computer based assessments and is a Pass or Fail

A variety of methods are used to assess your progress in the Business qualification, including examination, individual and group presentations, case studies, assignments, projects, and display work. You will achieve a Pass, Merit or Distinction grade for each business module according to how well you cover the learning outcomes specified.

Future opportunities

The course aims to equip you with skills to succeed in employment as an Accounting Apprentice.  However you can chose to continue onto a further year of study at College, which would enable entry to University as an alternative option
