COURSE INFORMATION

 

Are you interested in how and why things work?  If you enjoyed the Physics modules at GCSE, if you are willing to work steadily throughout the course and are able to meet deadlines, you will find A Level Physics a challenging but rewarding course. 

Entry requirements

You will need to have achieved a ‘B’ Grade in Science and a ‘B’ Grade in Maths at GCSE Level.

AS Modules Studied:

• Module 1 - Mechanics:

- Forces, Motion and Momentum

- Work and Energy

AS Level – 30% A Level – 15%

 

• Module 2 - Electrons, Waves and Photons:

- Quantum Physics

- Electricity

- Waves

AS Level – 50% A Level – 25%

 

• Module 3 - Practical Skills:

- Practical Skills (teacher assessed)

- Qualitative, quantitative and evaluative tasks

AS Level – 20% A Level – 10%

 

 

A2 Modules Studied:

• Module 1 - Newtonian World:

- Linear and Circular Motion

- Oscillations

- Thermal Physics

A Level – 15%

 

• Module 2 - Fields, Particles & Frontiers of Physics:

- Electric and Magnetic Fields

- Capacitance

- Nuclear Physics

- The Universe

- Medical Imaging

A Level – 25%

 

• Module 3: Practical Skills:

- Practical Skills (teacher assessed)

- Qualitative, quantitative and evaluative tasks

A Level – 10%
