Drama and Theatre Studies at Andover College

Course description

The appreciation of studying and analysing plays in addition to performing is essential for taking this course. The course takes an academic and practical approach to drama through working closely with the text, learning in detail about plays, different styles of theatre and the work of playwrights and practitioners who have revolutionised theatre and the art of being an actor. Set texts for AS Level are studied in addition to evaluating a live production and performing either a monologue or duologue and a full length play. At A2 Level you will create a unique piece of theatre through using devising techniques.

At A2 Level the set text is studied alongside evaluating a Classical Theatre text after seeing it performed live. These texts will be analysed fully in a written examination at the end of the year. Students are expected to give their time outside of lessons so considerable enthusiasm and passion for drama is vital. This course has high expectations in attendance, punctuality, meeting deadlines for the written element, analytical and critical thinking. Full co-operation in working as a team, contributing to the same goal and resolving issues as they arise are expected from students at this level.
