Plumbing Level 1 at Wiltshire College
This qualification is for those wanting to enter the Plumbing industry, giving you the opportunity to pick up some core skills and knowledge, and the opportunity to progress onto the Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing.
Students who wish to complete this course will need to show commitment, a determination to gain new skills and an enthusiasm for plumbing knowledge. Learners must have an interest in the trade and also be self motivated in improving their own

- Structure of the construction industry
- Fundamental safe working practices
- Environmental and sustainability measures in domestic dwellings
- UnSite preparation for working in the construction industry
- Above ground drainage
- Copper pipework
- Plastic pressure pipework
- Low carbon steel pipework
- Installation, repair and maintenance of plumbing systems
- Plumbing science
4 GCSEs at grade E or above including Maths and English. You will also be required to pass a trade specific aptitude test, provide a good reference and have a satisfactory
It would be an advantage to go through your course notes on a weekly basis to enable you to understand the knowledge required to be successful.
There are 10 units to complete and these are assessed by a mixture of written exams and practical assessments.
The final qualification gained at the end of this course is a City & Guilds Level 1 Diploma in Plumbing Studies
Successful completion of the course can lead to progressing onto the Level 2 Plumbing Studies course.
The plumbing industry offers many opportunities for employment, either by being directly employed or through apprenticeship schemes. Many of our students have gone into the areas of design and specification and some are now running their own businesses.
