Business BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate at Richard Huish College

Course description

The BTEC qualification allows you to develop skills and knowledge that are essential when looking to progress into employment or further study in business. There is the option here to have a really developed focus in Business with the Extended Diploma. This is equivalent to 3 A Levels and holds the same UCAS points tariff.

It’s all about communication... we investigate and acknowledge how businesses communicate as well as how we get our own messages across (Self-Marketing). We continually develop links with external businesses and recruiters to support you on this course and we provide extra qualifications for example, Food Hygiene (CIEH Level 2 Award in Food Safety for Retail). All the units chosen on this course are vital for your overall development and progression, and this course endeavours to provide you with the skills to get ahead in business. Our unique approach to the topics, the range of facilities, resources and support provided will help you to achieve your potential.

  • No previous knowledge of business required
  • You don't have to have done GCSE or BTEC Business at level 2 to do BTEC with us.


All the assessment is via coursework.

Financial information

During this course you will have opportunities to take part in a number of trips which are both fun and educational. Some of the trips which we have already done include:

  • Havana Coffee Co.
  • Hollywood Bowl

Future opportunities

You may decide that you want to go to university or start work after your course.

Huish Business School also offers a wide range of courses for business and professional development.

This includes a Foundation Degree in Business and Management and the opportunity to do a top-up year to gain a BA (Hons) Applied Professional Studies (Leadership and Management). Both can be studied on a full or part time basis.

We deliver professional accountancy qualifications from the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT), Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).

These courses cover all levels and can be studied on a day release, evening or distance learning basis to suit individual needs.

You can also study qualifications awarded by the Institute of Leadership and Management.

    • Huish is situated on the edge of parkland overlooking fields and hills, about ten minutes walk from the town centre.

      Huish is committed to encouraging you to travel to college by cycle, public transport or car sharing where possible. There is a cycle path to the College taking you to Vivary Park so that you don’t have to walk or cycle with the traffic along South Road. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to college from the bus station but many of the buses students use come directly to the campus.
