Course description

This course is intended for someone who is about to launch a new career in accounts (or who has recently done so).

Course content

Basic Accounting I Principles of recording and processing financial transactions, Preparing and recording financial documentation, Processing ledger transactions and extracting a trial balance Basic Accounting II Maintaining and reconciling the cash book, Banking procedures, Maintaining petty cash records, Maintaining the journal, Maintaining control accounts Basic Costing Basic principles of costing, Provide basic cost and revenue information Computerised Accounting Input and process data for business transactions including sales and purchases, receipts and payments, and to prepare management and period end reports. Work Effectively in Accounting and Finance how to work within the accounting/payroll environment and of what is expected of them at this level

Entry requirements

No previous business accounts experience is needed, but you must be able to use Word and Excel. You will also need to complete a literacy and numeracy screening assessment.


All units other than Work Effectively in Accounting and Finance are assessed by online Computer based examination. Work Effectively in Accounting and Finance is assessed by AAT e-delivered project/case study or workplace evidence
