Travel and Tourism - Level 1 Certificate in Introduction to Business, Travel and Tourism at Wakefield College

Course description

If you’re interested in a career in the travel industry this course will start you on your journey.

It is an ideal starting point for you to study about Travel and Tourism and Air Cabin Crew and is specially designed to help you decide which career pathway you want to follow.

A range of visits and residential are also planned throughout the academic year. Examples of day visits include visits to major visitor attractions such as Blackpool Pleasure Beach and Alton Towers. Overnight residential include trips to Amsterdam, which include visiting major attractions such as Anne Franks House.

Course content

What you will study

You will study for a Certificate in Introduction to the Travel and Tourism Industry as well as a Certificate in Business, in one course which will also help you develop your employability skills. Qualifications are produced by City and Guilds who are recognised specialists in designing courses which prepare students for work in the industry and BTEC.

  • Preparing for Employment in the Travel Business Industry

How you will learn

Your course will be an interesting mix of classes.  Some of them will be in our specially-built aircraft cabin room where you can develop the knowledge and skills to work as Cabin Crew.  Some will be in our PC room where you will research and study the latest travel and tourism news and information, and some will be in classrooms where you will prepare for work in the industry.

3 GCSEs at A*-G (new grade 9-1)
 

Assessment

Assessments will also be varied.  You may be assessed through practical tasks, short-answer questions, research tasks or online tests.  There is a rich mixture of assessment methods to ensure you get chance to show your understanding.

Financial information

Tuition and certification are free if you are aged 16-18 years old. Related additional costs may include materials, equipment, visits, residentials etc which are payable by all students.
Any student entered/registered with an Awarding Body who has been given free entry and then withdraws or is withdrawn by a tutor will incur the certification fee associated with the course. Any resit examination will incur a cost.

Future opportunities

Further study

The course is designed to help you decide the best progression route for you, and it is likely that you would progress onto either the Level 2 Diploma in Travel and Tourism or the Level 2 Diploma in Travel and Business.

Career Opportunities

Employment opportunities exist in Travel and Tourism and aviation but it is likely that a minimum of a Level 2 qualification would be needed to help you gain work.
