Level 1 Diploma in Introduction to Travel and Tourism at Wakefield College
If you’re interested in a career in the travel industry this course will start you on your journey.
It is an ideal starting point for you to study about Travel and Tourism and Air Cabin Crew and is specially designed to help you decide which career pathway you want to follow.
A range of visits and residential are also planned throughout the academic year. Examples of day visits include visits to major visitor attractions such as Blackpool Pleasure Beach and Alton Towers. Overnight residential include trips to Amsterdam, which include visiting major attractions such as Anne Franks House and Disney Land Paris.
What you will study
You will study for a Diploma in Introduction to the Travel and Tourism course which will also help you develop your employability skills. Qualifications are produced by City and Guilds who are recognised specialists in designing courses which prepare students
for work in the industry.

• Preparing for Employment in the Travel Industry
How you will learn
You will be involved in active learning through a series of projects. The projects will allow you to action plan and produce evidence for your portfolio. Typical projects include working with external partners, employability, equality and diversity and safeguarding.
There are also many practical activities to prepare for working life and independent living.
3 GCSEs at A*-G (new grade 9-1)
Assessments will also be varied. You may be assessed through practical tasks, short-answer questions, research tasks or online tests. There is a rich mixture of assessment methods to ensure you get chance to show your understanding.
Tuition and certification are free if you are aged 16-18 years old. Related additional costs may include materials, equipment, visits, residentials etc which are payable by all students.
Any student entered/registered with an Awarding Body who has been given free entry and then withdraws or is withdrawn by a tutor will incur the certification fee associated with the course. Any resit examination will incur a cost.

There may be the possibility to progress on to our FLEX VOTE programme which is designed to give you an opportunity of studying at higher levels for personal and social skills, employability skills, maths, English and ICT and will also give you vocational options and tasters.
The programme also opens up possible opportunities for the College's Supported Employment Training provision.
Employment opportunities exist in Travel and Tourism and aviation but it is likely that a minimum of a Level 2 qualification would be needed to help you gain work.
