Social Sciences and Public Service Related Professions Access Level 3 at Waltham Forest College

Course description

This course is for people who would like to study Social Science and Humanities related subjects and who would like to progress onto University to study a Social Science or Humanities related degree.

Course content

You will study English Literature, Psychology, Sociology, Research Methods, Social Policy and Academic based Study Skills units.

Entry requirements

There is a selection process each learner has to go through consisting of an English and Maths diagnostic test, a writing test and a proof reading exercise - after this, you will have an interview to further establish suitability and to make sure you are directed onto the right course for your progression.


Various assessment methods are used such as essays, reports, examinations, discussions and oral presentations. All assessment methods help to prepare you for the transition onto University and to be a success.

Future opportunities

Students could progress onto degree programmes such as Social Work and Community Related studies, Youth Work, Education studies, Humanities courses including English Literature, Psychology and Sociology as well as Early Years and Teaching - for Teaching, and some other degree University entry, you will need GCSEs prior to entry.

      Trains run to Walthamstow Central from Liverpool Street station (a bus can then be taken to the College, see below). Wood Street station is approximately a 10-minute walk from the College.


      The Victoria Line ends at Walthamstow Central, which is approximately a 15-minute walk to the College. Alternatively, you can get a bus, see below.


      From Walthamstow Central:Bus 275 stops outside the College, 212 stops across the road from the College (Shernhall Street). Buses 97, 357, 34 or 215 stop at the 'Bell Corner' (junction of Hoe Street and Forest Road). From here, the College is approximately five-minute walk.

      From Blackhorse Road Tube Station: Bus 123 also stops outside the College on route between Tottenham and Ilford
