Art and Design - UAL Level 1 Award / Diploma at West Thames College

Course description

Foundation Learning courses are designed to give you the skills to progress to Level 2. You will study a variety of subjects such as exploring 2 dimensions, discovering 3 dimensions, drawing, painting, printmaking, mixed media, creating surface relief, 3D design crafts and 3D design. You will create personal projects and study functional skills in English and maths.

Course content

You will study:

  • Exploring 2 dimensions
  • Discovering 3 dimensions
  • A project in 2 or 3 dimensions
  • Drawing
  • Painting
  • Printmaking
  • Mixed media
  • Creating surface relief
  • 3D design crafts
  • 3D design
  • A personal project

You will also study functional skills in English and maths and you will have a weekly tutorial.

None, but you will have an assessment.

Assessment

Assessment is through assignment based work. The emphasis is on practical work, although there is a certain amount of written work required.

Financial information

This course is free for students aged 16-18.

Future opportunities

If you successfully complete all the modules, you can go on to BTEC Level 2 Art and Design or another Level 2 course.
