Course content

This course is practical based, with embedded elements of media and communication theory to combine the practical skills with theory content. The ability to write and analyse information is therefore required. The theory content of the course focuses on students' understanding of meanings (semiotics) created by the media and how audiences are targeted and consume media products.

The course will be based in our brand new Media Centre using our TV studio, digital cameras and editing suites. You will get practical hands-on experience using the latest technologies for audio visual production required for film and television studio productions. Each student has access to an Apple Mac computer and our video editing suites are kitted up with various editing software for film editing and radio production including Final Cut, Adobe Premiere and Photoshop.

You will study:

  • Single camera and multi-camera techniques
  • Scriptwriting for fictional film and factual programming
  • Television documentary production
  • Music video production
  • Presenting and interviewing techniques for broadcast journalism.

You must be passionate about film and television and be able to produce both practical and written work to a high standard.

This course consists of the 90-credit Diploma in Year 1 followed by the Extended Diploma in Year 2.
