Design and technology A Level at John Taylor High School Academy

Course description

This creative and thought-provoking qualification gives students the practical skills, theoretical knowledge and confidence to succeed in a number of careers. Especially those in the creative industries. They will investigate historical, social, cultural, environmental and economic influences on design and technology, whilst be enjoying opportunities to put their learning in to practice by producing products of their choice. Students will gain a real understanding of what it means to be a designer, alongside the knowledge and skills sought by higher education and employers.

Entry requirements

Grade B GCSE Product Design and grade 6 GCSE Mathematics

Assessment

Assessment - Paper 1
Core Technical & Designing Principles
Written exam: 2 Hours - 25% of A-Level

Paper 2
Specialist Knowledge, technical and designing & making principles
Written exam: 2 Hours - 25% of A-Level

Non-Exam Assessment (Coursework) - Practical application of technical principles. Designing & making principles and specialist knowledge
• Substantial design and make task
• Theme options are given by the exam board
• Start 1st June in Y12. Finish: 30th April in Y13
• 45 hours
• 50% of A Level

Portfolio of work and final working prototype
