Art and Design A Level at St Edward's Roman Catholic/Church of England School
Choosing Art and Design will give you the opportunity to further your interest and skills in this subject. You will have the opportunity to explore your ideas in a more personal way than at GCSE level and to spend more time in developing practical techniques. Trips are organised to provide you with the opportunity of studying artwork first-hand.
The full A level Art course has two units:
Component 1 - Personal Investigation
A personal investigation in which candidates develop work in response to an idea, issue, concept or theme of their choosing. At A level candidates are required to build upon their knowledge, understanding and skills gained at GCSE with greater depth of study.
Component 2 Externally set assignment
Candidates will be given a question paper containing a range of exciting starting points. Candidates will choose one to develop. They will be given a lead in a period in which to prepare for the final exam. The final exam consists of a supervised period of 15 hours.
A love of Art and Grade C in GCSE Art
The A level course in Art can prepare students for entry to the Foundation course at The Arts University, Bournemouth, which could lead to a BA(Hons) Degree course in a range of Art disciplines, including Architecture.
