Course description

The course is ideal if you love practical music but are less interested in the analytical and theoretical study of music history.  This course is for you if you are seriously interested in developing your skills as a musician.  A BTEC qualification gives you a wealth of musical experience and transferable skills, preparing you to continue to undergraduate study or the workplace.  If you enjoy listening to music, performing music, and music production then this course is definitely for you.

There may be some small costs throughout the course to pay for trips and experiences, e.g. visits to the local theatres, recording studios and live music venues. These will enable us to deliver a valuable and worthwhile course to you.  We will endeavour to inform you of any additional costs well in advance of required payment.

Entry requirements

Grade B in GCSE Music.  You will also need to have some experience of playing an instrument or singing and will be looking to broaden and strengthen these musical skills and develop your musical knowledge.

Future opportunities

BTEC Subsidiary Diploma is established as an important qualification for progression to study Music in higher education. BTEC students can often be better prepared in terms of the independent studying that's required at degree level, due to the portfolio-based nature of BTEC courses.  The time management and self-organisation you will pick up on a BTEC course can also give you an added edge.  It is also a suitable qualification for entry into a very broad range of other degree courses.  The course provides an excellent foundation for students intending to pursue careers in teaching, the music industry and business, events management and working as a professional musician.
