Creative Digital Media BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate at Ashton on Mersey School and Sixth Form

Course description

This vocational and practical course is ideal for students who would like to build their creative digital media portfolio and production skills. The course provides a balance of breadth and depth while retaining a degree of choice for individual learners to study content relevant to their own interests and progression choices.

Course content

The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma is equivalent to three A Levels. You will study four units over the two year course with three mandatory units and one optional unit. Units you may study:

- Scriptwriting: You will investigate how to effectively write scripts for a variety of media outputs and look at how scripts are constructed.
- Digital Game Production: You will study the design, creation, testing and evaluation of a game through the system life cycle.
- Media Enterprise: You will investigate how to initiate and develop an idea within the media industry. Developing essential skills to research, problem-solve, plan and produce a new media product or service.
- Film Production Skills: You will study the design, creation, testing and evaluation of a film.

Entry requirements

5 Full Course GCSEs at grade A*- C including English Language and Mathematics at grade 4 or above. To study this subject a minimum GCSE grade B or equivalent qualification in Computing/ICT is required.

Assessment

25% will be a written examination and 25% externally assessed assessment with 50% of this course being internally assessed assignments. This is a practical, work related course and you will learn by completing tasks and assignments that are based on realistic situations.
