Design and Technology (Systems and Control) A Level at Stratton Upper School

Course description

This course helps you to tackle everyday technological problems that affect our lives. You get the chance to study, propose & realise quality solutions to satisfy designing and making needs. You will research, apply your knowledge, using electronic, mechanical components & systems to make prototypes.

Course content

AS

F521: Advanced Innovation Challenge. This is a timed design challenge based on a pre-released theme. The challenge consists of a workbook, a modelling exercise and a written paper.

F522: The Product Study. Here you carry out an in-depth product analysis resulting in suggestions for improvements. A2 –

F523: Design, Make and Evaluate.  You will produce a portfolio and a product based on an electronics and/or mechanical system.

F524: Product Design is a written paper that consists of two components, you select questions that have a Systems and Control theme.

Assessment

AS – Coursework: 60%

Practical: 40%

A2 – Exam: 40%

Coursework: 60%
