Course description

Barbering and male grooming is a real growth area in the industry; this exciting Technical Certificate will equip you with the skills and expertise to offer a range of Barbering services to men. Gaining this qualification will increase your employability and earning potential in this competitive and dynamic industry.

If your dream career is to be a barber, this is the qualification for you. Working with real clients in the Academy of Hair & Beauty based at our High Street Campus, is a perfect way to start your career in barbering.

Fully equipped, state of the art industry standard salons using top professional equipment and Matrix products make an ideal platform for you to learn the practical as well as the theoretical side of hairdressing.

You will be taught the techniques and skills to cut, colour, shape and dress both male and female clients’ hair to create the look they want by barbering and hairdressing specialists. Visiting experts make sure you are exposed to the most up to date information and developments in areas such as straightening techniques and products, barbering and colouring. As a barbering student you will attend the Manchester Trade Fair and can take part in internal and regional competitions which are a wonderful platform to show off your newly found talents.

You will be required to purchase a kit and wear a uniform for the practical aspects of the course.

Course content

  • Principles and practices of hairdressing & barbering services
  • Shampooing, conditioning & treating the hair & scalp
  • Cut hair using basic barbering techniques
  • Dry & finish men’s hair
  • Cut facial hair to shape using basic techniques
  • Create basic outlines & detailing in hair

Entry requirements

  • Hair & Beauty Level 1 or previous experience including English & maths GCSEs 9-2 (A*-E)
