Preparing for the Community Interpreting Role Certificate Level 2 at South & City College Birmingham

Course description

The community interpreter is becoming increasingly more important particularly in communities which are linguistically diverse. The community interpreter acts as a bridge between these communities and public services enabling people to access services and situations which might otherwise be out of reach. This qualification enables learners who are speakers of other languages to develop the underpinning skills and language to go on to train as community interpreters at Level 3 and 4. As with the Level 1 Award, this qualification is not a training course to become an intepreter and those undertaking paid assignments in the future will be expected to hold a minimum of a Level 3 or 4 qualification in interpreting. This qualification is suitable for those who have completed the Level 1 Award in Community Interpreting or who have some experience in interpreting in the voluntary sector or who wish to gain further qualifications to enable them to work towards becoming a community interpreter.
