Course description

This two year course will give you an in-depth understanding of medical science. It is perfect if you want to pursue a career in the field of science, such as biology, ODP, audiology, paramedics, nursing, pharmacy, biomedical science, food science, psychology and physiotherapy. You will explore a number of fundamental scientific concepts in chemistry, biology and physics.

Entry requirements

You'll need three GCSEs grade A-C including science core science and maths or equivalent qualifications or BTEC in Applied Science Level 2 with merit and distinction grades. You will also have to undertake an interview and assessment.

Future opportunities

Upon completion of this course you will be able to apply to universities for a range of applied science based degrees. You may also progress to a HND in Biological Sciences. Previous students from this course have progressed onto degrees in biomedical science, chemistry with analytical science, radiography, radiotherapy, chemical engineering, petroleum engineering, microbiology, forensic science, computer science and pharmaceutical science. This qualification is primarily designed to support progression to employment after further study at university. However, it also supports students choosing to progress directly to employment, as the transferable knowledge, understanding and skills will give successful students an advantage when applying for a range of entry level industry training programmes and/or Higher Apprenticeships in areas such as laboratory technician, industrial technician and medical technician. Students could look for work in areas such as a hospital laboratory, research laboratory, a laboratory in a school or college, or a quality control laboratory.
