Beauty Therapy (Pre-Entry) at Bolton College
Salon Owner? Mobile Therapist? Special Effects Make-up Artist? Whatever your aim, this Beauty course will help you to kick-start your career!
Learning skills and techniques from our expert teaching staff, you'll soon progress on to treating members of the public within our professional beauty treatment rooms.
This course has been designed to help you understand the basic requirements of the beauty sector and gain some practical skills to enable you to work successfully in the glamorous and dynamic industry.
The course offers an introduction to:
- The Health & Beauty Sector
- Presenting a Professional Image
- Skin Care
- Hand Care
- Creating an Image Using Colour (make-up)
- Basic Make-up Application
- General Product Knowledge
You'll also gain basic employability and work-ready skills, such as presentation skills, hygiene skills and communication skills.
No formal qualifications are required, but an interest in beauty therapy is essential.
You’ll be assessed flexibly through oral/written questions, assignments and practical work. We’ll also ask you to compile a portfolio of practical work to provide evidence of what you have learned.
Government-funded Further Education courses are usually free if you are aged 16-18 and are a British or European Union resident. Financial help is available for some students, whose families are on low income. After you have completed the course you could remain in College and progress on to Beauty Therapy VRQ Diploma Level 1.
Alternatively, if you choose to look for paid work you could opt for a Beauty Therapy Apprenticeship and work as an Apprentice Beauty Therapist.
Following further study you could work as a Beauty Therapist and earn between £12,000 and £17,000 a year, depending on experience.
