Bricklaying Level 2 Diploma at Goldwyn 6th Form College
This Level 2 Diploma is ideal for those learners who have successfully completed Level 1 Diploma in Bricklaying and wish to continue with their studies. In year 2 you will continue to learn the skills to become a good bricklayer. As a trained bricklayer you could work on housing sites, city developments, domestic extensions and conservatories, new work, conversions or repairs. You might want the security of site work or possibly branch out on your own, become self-employed and start your own business.
On the second year of the diploma course, along with further developing your practical skills, we will expand on many of the subjects from the first year.
The following areas are covered in the qualification:
- calculating materials
- communications in construction
- technical drawing
- how to read building drawings
- carrying out cavity walling activities
- carrying out block laying activities
- carrying out bricklaying activities
- contribute to setting out and building of masonry up to damp proof course
Successfully completed Level 1 Diploma in Bricklaying. Three GCSEs grades 9-4 or above, plus a positive record of achievement/progress.
There are continuous practical assessments, and a number of unit assessments and an end of year online exam.
On successful completion of this course, you can progress onto Level 3 Diploma in Bricklaying. Work on site as an improver or bricklayer and complete on-site assessments. Complete NVQ 2 in Trowel Occupations. Advice on opportunities for further studies will be provided during your course.
On successful completion of this course, you could go on to work within the construction industry. You could continue with on-site training or an Apprenticeship programme with a company. Advice on opportunities will be available from our advice team during your course.
