Course description

What will I learn about? 

You will learn to look at the English Language in a completely new way. We will study how the English Language is used in practice and how it varies between different people, times, ages and societies. We will analyse different elements, explore the history of the language, how children learn and the impact of technology. 

Why would this course suit me?

If you find yourself listening in to conversations on the bus, analysing the headings to advertising posters or wondering at the words used in social media exchanges, you are a budding English Language expert and should do this course.

Where would it take me?

A degree in English Language and Linguistics can take you into specific career areas such as speech therapy, journalism and publishing. It is an excellent grounding to become a school teacher. It also presents you as an excellent reader and researcher. This A-Level combines well with a broad range of other subjects, including Psychology, Science subjects and Humanities.

Minimum entry requirements: Grade 4 in English Language
