Course description

This course allows you to study law, but with coursework rather than examinations. Law is a very popular subject and covers a wide range of interesting topics. Whilst studying this course, you will have the opportunity to visit the criminal courts and benefit from lectures given by visiting speakers such as practising solicitors and legal apprentices. 

This course is equivalent to 1 A Level 

Course content

You will study:

  • Criminal law
  • English legal system
  • Sources of law (common law and statues)
  • Law of torts
  • Legal funding

Entry requirements

3 grade Bs/5s and 3 grade Cs/4s at GCSE

Assessment

You will complete three units in the first year and three units in the second year. All assessment is via coursework

Financial information

Full time courses are free to 16-18 year olds who are EU citizens

Future opportunities

This subject provides a valuable first step for a career in law. Apart from the professions of a solicitor and barrister, there are many law-related careers such as a legal executive, paralegal, police officer, or any role within the criminal justice system. You could progress on to university, employment or on to an apprenticeship
