Geography A Level at Hessle High School and Sixth Form College

Course description

You will explore physical and human geography and contemporary geographical issues. You will also develop your skills in fieldwork techniques, data analysis and interpretation. The following units are studied:

  • Coastal Systems
  • Hazards
  • Global Systems and Governance
  • Water and Carbon Cycles
  • Changing Places
  • Contemporary Urban Environments
  • Geographical Investigations

Fieldwork is a vital component of the course and you will visit different places depending on your place of study. Previous visits have included Derbyshire, Whitby, Tenerife and Italy.

Entry requirements

A minimum of five GCSEs at a Pass Grade are required.
Some courses have specific subject grade requirements for entry. For more details, please contact staff at your place of study.

Geography is very well respected by employers and educational establishments. It gives you numerical and literacy skills and shows you are able to work independently. Careers include environmental science, town planning, engineering, tourism and business.
