Level 2 NCFE Certificate in Hospitality & Catering Principles at Cambridge Regional College

Course description

This is a one year full time course in catering and will enable you to develop skills in the hospitality industry.  The course is designed for students who need extra support to achieve the Level 2 qualification and who wish to follow a career in the hospitality industry.  The course is very practical and you have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience of all aspects of restaurant work.

This one year course will cover the following core units plus up to an additional 26 credits:

• Introduction to the Hospitality Industry
• Customer Service in the Hospitality Industry
• Effective Team Work

• A smart and professional image is essential as you will be working with the public
• Great importance is placed upon reliability - regular attendance and punctuality are essential
• You will need to purchase a uniform before the start of the programme; further details will be given to you at the Welcome Event
• You may be required to undertake work experience in Costa
• You may be required to work one late evening shift in our restaurant
• You will have a strong passion for the hospitality industry
• You will be trained in our on-site restaurant

As with all our programmes, this course includes tutorial sessions and individual reviews, giving you individual time with your personal tutor.
You will also study and achieve Functional Skills qualifications in English and Maths to assist in your personal development.

A residential fee of £100 is required at enrolment.

Entry requirements

You will need 2 GCSEs at grade 3 (D) or above.  Each candidate will be considered on their experience, suitability, school reference showing good attendance and behaviour and a genuine interest in the catering industry.In addition to the entry qualifications listed, the offer of a place on the course is subject to the outcomes of initial assessment, which will be taken at the College as part of the admissions process. Please note that entry criteria may vary quite significantly between courses at the same level. This is to take account of the specific skills needed for success on particular courses, the length of the course and the requirements for progression to the next level. Entry criteria are given as a guide, and the exact requirements in order to obtain a place on a particular course will be confirmed following attendance at a Welcome Event/Interview.

Assessment

Assessment will take place in The Park Restaurant facilities and in our modern kitchen areas which are equipped to a high industrial standard and utilise some of the latest technology. You will be expected to demonstrate your competence in all units to the standard required in industry.

Assessments take place throughout the programme by a variety of methods including:
• practical assessment
• oral assessment
• written assessment
• completion of a log/work book

Future opportunities

On successful completion, with outstanding commitment and attendance, this programme will enable you to progress onto the Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Hospitality.  It is also a valuable qualification recognised throughout the hospitality industry as an important level of achievement which can lead to opportunities for employment in various aspects of the catering industry.
