Course description

The EAL L2 Diploma 600/6724/X course consists of 5 units which are:-Unit ELEC2/01 Health and safety in Electrical Installation Unit ELEC2/04 Electrical Installation Theory and Technology Unit ELEC2/05A Electrical Installation Methods, Procedures and RequirementsUnit ELEC2/05B Electrical Installation Craft skillsUnit ELEC2/08 Electrical Science and PrinciplesUnit ELEC2/01 covers all aspects of Health & Safety legislation including employer/employee duties, the role of HSE and various statutory and non statutory regulations.Unit ELEC2/04 the purpose of this knowledge unit is for the learners to gain knowledge of the underpinning principles and industry standards and requirements of electrical installation technology. They will know about sources of information and the types of information they provide about wiring systems. They will also know about earthing systems and the installation of wiring systems.Unit ELEC2/05A This unit will develop learners knowledge of the various members of the construction team and their role within the building services industry.Unit ELEC2/05B This practical unit will develop in learners the skills required to install wiring systems to recognised standards. Learners will learn to use tools and materials effectively in completing well defined tasks for electrical installations. In addition to learning to install systems, learners will also develop skills to inspect and test wiring systems.Unit ELEC2/08 describes the principles of electricity including the chemical, magnetic and thermal effects of current. SI units, symbols and basic formulae are an essential part of this unit.

Entry requirements

You will need to meet our standard entry requirements.

You will need at least GCSE English Language and Maths Grade C/4, and Science grade D/3 plus one other GCSE grade D/3.

Assessment

You will be assessed through a mixture of online tests and practical tasks.

Future opportunities

You can progress to Electrical Installation Level 3 if you successfully complete this course and show an aptitude for further study. This qualification can also be used directly as part of the Advanced Apprenticeship in Electrical Installation. We will discuss this option with you as your course progresses.

Further information

To progress on this course, and to go further in training or at work, it’s essential to have good Maths and English alongside vocational expertise. We encourage all applicants to work to achieve at least C grade GCSE English and Maths before leaving school, if at all possible. However, if you have not achieved a GCSE in Maths and/or English (grades A*-C) at the start of your course you will continue to study these subjects as a compulsory part of your programme. If you are not ready to retake your GCSE, you will study these subjects as Functional Skills. Functional Skills put English and Maths in their everyday context and develop your skills in the areas used by everyone to function in modern life and at work. They are also a compulsory part of apprenticeships in all trades. You will be expected to retake your English and/or Maths GCSEs within your first year of study.
