Travel Operations Certificate level 2 at Leicester College

Course description

If you are aged 16-18, you will be enrolled on a study programme, which will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven't already achieved a grade 4 or above. You will also be required to complete a work experience placement and an employability programme.This is a course that combines various sectors of the tourism industry with units that include Aviation, Cabin Crew, Resort Representative and Travel Services. This is a vocational course which will give you an insight into different career options and experiences within the tourism industry. You will also be part of Swissport Academy and will take part in trips to East Midlands Airport for assessment and educational trips.

Course content

The course is combined with both practical and theory based assessments which are linked to Travel Industry visits to help you develop and understand the key concepts of employability within the industry. You will learn about Aviation Operations linked closely to East Midlands Airport, what it entails to be either cabin crew or a resort representative which will involve a lot or practical role plays and also about the tourism industry in general.

Entry requirements

Standard entry to this course requires one reference. It is desirable that you can demonstrate 90% attendance. A GCSE in both English and maths at grade 3 (D) or above is required. Consideration will be given to all applicants over the age of 19, who do not hold formal English and maths qualifications.


There are a variety of assessment methods which are used such as live projects, report writing, creating displays and PowerPoint presentations. You will also take part in role-play assessments.

Financial information

Material fee £40.00. There is an additional £90 for the British Airways Cabin Crew Away Day which is a mandatory part of the course.

Future opportunities

Upon successful completion of this course you could either progress onto either the level 3 Professional Travel Operations (C4546) or the level 3 BTEC Diploma in Travel & Tourism (C0316). The choice of course would depend on whether you wanted to progress onto University at the end of level 3 or go into employment. Alternatively you could gain employment within the industry or take up an apprenticeship within the Tourism and Hospitality industry.
