Travel and Tourism BTEC Extended Certificate level 2 at Leicester College
If you are aged 16-18, you will be enrolled on a study programme, which will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven't already achieved a grade 4 or above. You will also be required to complete a work experience placement and an employability programme.This course gives you the qualifications to work successfully in a range of jobs in the travel and tourism industry. You will explore various avenues of work and career possibilities within this expanding industry.
This is a practical, work-related course and involves the completion of projects, assignments and activities. You will study modules in Customer Service, UK Travel and Tourism Destinations, Planning Visits, and Marketing. The course also offers a tutorial system to help with your work and planning. You may want to find a related part-time job, which will give you an insight into modern business methods and which you could then use for your work experience.
Standard entry to this course requires one reference. It is desirable that you can demonstrate 90% attendance in your last place of study or work. A GCSE in both English and maths at grade 3 (D) or above is required. Consideration will be given to all applicants over the age of 19, who do not hold formal English and maths qualifications.
There will be a variety of assessment methods such as report writing, leaflets, powerpoint presentations, role play and displays.

On successful completion of the course with a merit grade, plus a minimum of 90% attendance, you may progress on to a level 3 Travel & Tourism course. This course will build on your foundation of skills and knowledge enabling you to work in a variety of jobs within the travel and tourism industry. There are two alternative level 3 Travel & Tourism programmes; BTEC level 3 Extended Diploma or level 3 Professional Travel Operations (Swissport Academy).
