Site Carpentry Diploma level 3 at Leicester College

Course description

This course is designed to offer progression from the level 2 Diploma in Site Carpentry, The level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Site Carpentry is for learners who are interested in developing the specific technical and professional skills that will lead to meaningful employment in the construction industry. Learners undertaking the site carpentry course will explore a wide range of carpentry techniques that includes constructing cut roofing, fitting doors and windows and fixing stairs with turns. You must supply safety footwear/clothing and an identified tool kit. Technical drawing equipment and stationery are also necessary. If you are aged 16-18, you will be enrolled on a study programme, which will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven't already achieved a grade 4 or above. You will also be required to complete a work experience placement and an employability programme.

Course content

Learners on the level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Site Carpentry course will study theoretical aspects of the subject and apply them to practical tasks. Compulsory topics include: Organising, planning and pricing construction work; set up and use fixed and transportable machinery; constructing cut roofing; fitting doors and windows; fixing stairs with turns; principles of maintenance and repair.

Entry requirements

1 reference. Desirable 90% attendance. A GCSE in both English and maths at grade 4 or above (C). Previously attained level 2 Diploma in Site Carpentry. Consideration will be given to all applicants over the age of 19, who do not hold formal English and maths qualifications.


To gain this qualification, candidates must successfully achieve the following assessments:€¢ One externally set, externally moderated assignment€¢ One externally set, externally marked exam, sat under examination conditions.

Financial information

Material fee £150.00. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) plus an identified tool kit will require purchasing. Individuals will also require stationery. There is a materials fee applicable to this course.

Future opportunities

This qualification helps prepare you for work in the construction industry specialising in the carpentry work area, with a specific focus on wood occupations, potential employment as an advanced apprentice or as a site carpenter. You can also apply to the technical and professional qualification at Level 3, the Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment.
