Plumbing Technical Certificate level 2 at Leicester College
The course will also you to develop practical skills and gain underpinning job knowledge to an industry standard; there are mandatory plumbing subjects that focus on how plumbers undertake and complete work. Associated works such as installation, maintenance and servicing of domestic plumbing and heating systems will be learnt using classrooms and workshops to develop a rounded college learning experience. If you are aged 16-18, you will be enrolled on a study programme, which will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven't already achieved a grade 4 or above. You will also be required to complete a work experience placement and an employability programme
This level 2 plumbing certificate qualification enables learners to develop practical skills combined with classroom learning. Units included are pipe work systems understanding and installation, cold water systems, domestic hot water systems, central heating pipe work, sanitation, and building engineering services awareness. You must supply safety footwear and your own protective clothing.
Standard entry to this course is one reference. It is desirable that you can demonstrate 90% attendance in your last place of study or work. A GCSE in both English and maths at grade 3 or above (D), plus a further two GCSEs at grade 3 (D) or above, one must include a science. Progressing learners will need to have previously attained a Level 1 Diploma in Plumbing plus maths and English at grade 2 minimum or the equivalent functional skills.
Assessment will be a summative examination in late April to May. There will be assessment throughout the programme by your tutors to check learning and underpinning knowledge of the subjects you will be undertaking. Practical assessments will also be tutor designed formative assessments and a Summative City & Guilds assessment in May to June.
Material fee £150.00. Construction has a risk associated with it. Leicester College tries to reduce this risk. This means learners will be required to purchase some basic equipment to support their learning and protect them during normal working practice in the workshop. You will be advised what is required during the application process.
You may progress onto a level 3 plumbing course or onto an apprenticeship . Your options will be discussed with you by a learning coach in term 3 of your programme. After certification, enrolment on to an appropriate level 3 programme is possible if you are employed or have a guaranteed work placement.
