Plumbing Diploma level 1 at Leicester College

Course description

This qualification is for learners wanting to learn the basic skills and knowledge involved in plumbing. The qualification covers a range of basic tasks and underpinning knowledge involved in plumbing. If you are aged 16-18, you will be enrolled on a study programme, which will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven't already achieved a grade 4 or above. You will also be required to complete a work experience placement and an employability programme.

Course content

Structure of the construction industry; fundamental safe working practices; environmental and sustainability measures in domestic dwellings; site preparation for working in the construction industry; above ground drainage; copper pipe work; plastic pressure pipe work; low carbon steel pipe work; installation, repair and maintenance of plumbing systems; plumbing science. These components will enable a rounded basic experience to develop learners towards there destination at the end of their one year programme. Your progression from a level 1 Plumbing programme will be a separate application for a separate programme. This may be C0360 Level 2 Plumbing. It may also be as an apprentice if you find employment with a plumber during your Level 1 training. Your options will be discussed with you by a learning coach in term 3 of your programme.

Entry requirements

It is desirable that you can demonstrate 90% attendance. You should have a GCSE in both English and maths at grade 1/2 or above (E/F/G) and will require a reference.


You will be continuously assessed and have assignments. All work will be graded and checked for content as well grammatical errors. All work produced is designed to help the learner grow in confidence during their learning programme.

Financial information

Material fee £75.00. Construction has a risk associated with it. Leicester College tries to reduce this risk. This means learners will be required to purchase some basic equipment to support their learning and protect them during normal working practice in the workshop. A working partnership is in place so Learners will be directed through his system during the application process.

Future opportunities

Successful completion of a Level 1 study programme enables learners to progress to the following-Qualifications: Level 2 Technical Certificate in Plumbing City & Guilds 8202-25 . With employment as a apprentice plumber Level 2 NVQ-Diploma in Plumbing and Heating (6189-11) Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Installing and-Maintaining Domestic Heating Systems (6189-21) or an Apprenticeship.
