Business Enterprise and Entrepreneurship BTEC 120 Credit Fast Track Diploma (Peter Jones Academy) level 3 at Leicester College

Course description

The course will help you develop your enterprise skills as you will setup and run your own business either hypothetically or for real. It is a one year programme (12 units) which gives you the equivalent of 2 A Levels which will convert to UCAS points. The course is ideal for those who want to set up and run a business within a year's time frame with the support and guidance of teaching staff. We will teach you to manage the day-to-day but tricky challenges of business, such as: Pitching for investment Leadership and teambuilding Setting up a pop up shop trading in your business idea Customer communication Financial control You will also be expected to complete a work experience placement as part of your programme.

Course content

The course begins with team building activities, including a trip to the Outdoor Pursuits Centre and an observation of 3 entrepreneurs who talk about different aspects of their business. You will then be involved in writing your business plan, preparing to present your pitch to mentors and investors just before you begin running your own businesses. The remainder of the course focuses on operating and monitoring the performance of your business and you will have the chance to work as an intrapreneur within a business as part of your 2 week work placement. You will also benefit from understanding how to buy and sell through completing a one week pop up trading. The course benefits from business engagement and enterprise themed activities and event such as inspirational guest talks, master classes and competitions. Entry requirements

Standard entry to this course requires one reference. It is desirable that you can demonstrate 90% attendance. A GCSE in both English and maths at grade 4 (C) or above is required or a full level 2 qualification at a merit grade. In some circumstances we will accept 4 GCSE's at grade C (4/5) if there were additional skills to support your application. Learners must also come with a basic business idea. This course is suitable for those who are ready and able to take on a programme equivalent to two A' levels in one year.

Assessment

There are a variety of assessment methods which are used such as live projects, report writing, business plans, creating displays/pop-up shops and PowerPoint presentations.

Material fee £40.00. There will be a cost of £70 to cover guest speakers and outings

Future opportunities

Upon successful completion of the course you could either set up or continue to run your own business or apply through UCAS for a range of University courses. Options in the Business Department at Leicester College include the Higher National Diploma in Business Management or the Foundation Degree in Tourism and Events Management. Alternatively you may decide to apply for a higher level apprenticeships or gain employment.
