Information Technology (Digital Computing) BTEC Subsidiary Diploma level 3 at Leicester College
If you are aged 16-18, you will be enrolled on a study programme, which will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven't already achieved a grade 4 or above. You will also be required to complete a work experience placement and an employability programme. This is a two year study programme that is designed to provide you with the opportunity to study a wide range of IT subjects. You will be studying the following modules - Communication and employability skills in IT, Computer Systems, Information technology, E commerce, Programming and Website design, you will have an number of hands on sessions, also directed study and Leap sessions.
During the course you will study twelve units that will provide you with the skills and knowledge needed to enter the workplace or progress onto a HND. The units you will study are Computer Systems, Communication Technologies, Procedural Programming using Unity and C#, Website Production, and Communications and Employability skills for IT. Topics taught are: Information Systems, E commerce, Database, Installing and upgrading software, Computer Animation, Computer Games Platforms, Computer Graphics and Digital Graphics.
Standard entry to this course requires one reference. It is desirable that you can demonstrate 90% attendance. A GCSE in both English and maths at grade 4 (C) or above is required. Consideration will be given to all applicants over the age of 19, who do not hold formal English and maths qualifications.
Assessment is via coursework, completed over two years. You will complete a number of activities to ensure that you gain the skills and knowledge your need, to evidence in your work that your skills and understanding are sufficient to pass each unit or achieve higher grades, Grades are pass, merit and distinction.

On successful completion of this two year programme you will achieve a qualification that is equivalent to two A levels and will enable you to progress onto a higher education course at university or a HND in Computing at Leicester College. There could also be employment opportunities in trainee positions within programming, IT support, network administration and support or progression onto an IT and Telecoms Professionals Apprenticeship.
