Drama and Theatre Studies A Level at John Cabot Academy

Course description

Perform to audiences as iconic and unique characters. Create and devise your very own original play. Learn practical and theoretical skills from some of the best playwrights and practitioners in history.

Course content

Component 1: Portfolio and Moderated Performance Devising (40%)
You will create an exciting and original piece of theatre influenced by the ideas of a theatre practitioner. You will be assessed on a portfolio documenting the devising performance (60 marks) and the performance itself (20 marks).

Component 2: Performance Exam Text in Performance (20%)
You will take part in a group performance of an extract from a published play (36 marks) and the performance of a monologue or duologue from a different performance text. (24 marks)

Component 3: Written Exam Theatre Makers in Practice (40%)
You will critically evaluate live theatre and practically explore two set texts from the perspective of a performer, designer and director. You will answer questions on your ideas for realising these texts in performance and reimagining them for a contemporary audience in the light of the ideas of different theatre practitioners (80 marks).

Entry requirements

C grade GCSE English necessary.

Drama GCSE or previous experience helpful, but not essential.
