Certificate of Personal Effectiveness Level 3 at Newton Abbot College

Course description

CoPE Level 3 helps students to build the skills they will need as they prepare for future study or work. In addition, it offers an ideal solution for accrediting the wider enrichment activities that often form a central part of the post-16 experience.

Course content

The Certificate of Personal Effectiveness (CoPE) is a substantial, nationally recognised Level 3 qualification in skills development. Students build a portfolio to practise, develop and demonstrate six important skills that are required for success in higher education, training or employment: teamwork, problem solving, discussion, research, oral presentation and self-management.

Entry requirements

Students must have achieved a minimum of Grade 4 or above in both English and Mathematics and Grade C (equivalent) in at least 3 other GCSE/Level 2 qualifications.

Future opportunities

A joint report by the NUS and CBI report highlighted the importance of developing key employability skills. These employability skills include team working, self-management, problem solving and communication; all of which are explicitly developed through CoPE. Students who have passed CoPE are already well prepared for the job market and application processes.
