English Language A Level at Waingels College

Course description

Students study a range of aspects of Language including: language levels (e.g. grammar, the layout of texts); how language varies depending on social factors such as gender or professions; how our language has developed over time and how children acquire language. Parts of the course also assess writing skills, with opportunities for original writing and opinion writing.

Entry requirements

Standard entry requirements plus a Grade 5 in both English Language and English Literature.


Exam (80%), Non-exam assessment (20%)

English provides skills for many subjects and careers, including Sociology, Law, Journalism, Teaching, Politics, Philosophy, Marketing, Business and much more. The English Language is particularly suitable for people considering a career in the media or any industry that requires communication.
