Health and Social Care - Level 3 Cambridge Technical at Backwell School

Course description

The programme is designed to provide an understanding of the many and varied aspects of health and social care services. The Level 3 Cambridge Technical provides a grounding that can be used to access higher education, further training or employment within the sector.

Entry requirements

There are no specific subject grades required at GCSE, aside from the general entry requirement to study at Backwell Sixth Form. The ability to self-manage on-going assessment work (which will require many hours of study outside of lessons) is essential.


The internally assessed units involve assignments and project work. These are internally marked and moderated by OCR. External assessment in this qualification will involve written examinations including case studies and scenarios related to the health and social care sector which students will need to apply their knowledge and understanding to.

Future opportunities

This can lead to further study at university or to careers in health or social care settings such as nursing, elderly care, nursery nursing, social work , early years education, mental health, special educational need support work. It would complement subjects such as Sciences, Psychology and Sociology and be suitable for anyone wishing to work with people.
