Music BTEC Level 3 Diploma at Newton Abbot College

Course description

The Level 3 BTEC in Music allows students to become occupationally ready to take up employment in the music sector at the appropriate level. This can follow either directly after achieving the qualification, or via the stepping stone of Higher Education in university. By studying BTEC Music, students develop knowledge, understanding and skills required by the sector, including essential employability skills, and apply them in real work contexts.

Course content

During the course you will have plenty of opportunity to perform and progress in music. You will learn the skills needed in order to make the most of rehearsal time as well as create, perform and rehearse in bands.  You will become a specialist on your chosen instrument or voice and gain an understanding of the music industry.

You will learn how to target specific audiences and how to put on a professional event.

You will also gain essential skills like communication, time management, dedication, effective practice and independent learning.

Entry requirements


Students must have achieved a minimum of Grade 4 or above in both English and Mathematics and Grade C (equivalent) in at least 3 other GCSE/Level 2 qualifications.


C Grade (equivalent) or above in a Level 2 Music related qualification. The ability to play an instrument or sing to a high standard is also essential.
