If you are interested in studying science at university, or working in the field of science, this course provides you with the skills, knowledge and qualifications you need to progress. In the first year, you will study units such as: - Fundamentals of science - Working in the science industry - Scientific practical techniques - Using mathematical tools in science - Mathematical calculations for science - Physiology of human body systems - Chemical laboratory techniques - Forensic evidence collection and analysis - Applications of forensic psychology - Criminal investigation practice The second year of the extended diploma will include units such as:- Scientific investigation - Perceptions of science - Informatics for science - Using statistics for science - Microbial techniques - Genetics and genetic engineering - Medical physics techniques - Criminal psychology - Forensic fire investigation - Traffic accident investigations
You will need 5 or more GCSEs at grade 4 or higher, including English, maths and science, or a relevant level 2 qualification.You will be invited to an interview to help us ensure the course is right for you.
Students are assessed through a variety of methods, for example assignments, case studies, work based assessments, projects, performance observation and internally set exams.
