A-level Chemistry at College of West Anglia

Course description

A-level Chemistry will help you build on your previous scientific study to develop and apply skills and understanding in aspects of analytical, organic, inorganic and physical chemistry which are relevant to higher education, research and employment.There is a significant amount of practical work included, both to develop skills and understanding and as assessed coursework units.

Entry requirements

You will need 6 or more GCSEs at grade 4 and above, including English language and maths, and grade 6 and above in your chosen subjects (where possible).

Assessment

Students will follow a programme of class teaching with laboratory practical tasks both in groups and as individuals. Group discussions and independent research projects are also included. Periodic table, elements and physical chemistry (01) 100 marks 2 hours 15 minutes written paper Synthesis and analytical techniques (02) 100 marks 2 hours 15 minutes written paper Unified chemistry(03) 70 marks 1hour 30 minutes written paper Practical endorsement in chemistry (04) non exam assessment
