Maintenance Operations (Construction) City and Guilds Level 2 Diploma at North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College

Course description

This course is designed to give students an insight into basic property maintenance and repair skills to compliment skills previously gained on level 1 multi-skills. Students will undertake various disciplines including bricklaying, carpentry, painting and decorating, drainage and guttering, roof tiling, paving and plastering. This is a route into a maintenance occupation or apprenticeship.

Course content

Students will work on various units and complete both practical and theoretical work in bricklaying and masonry defects, shoring, carpentry repairs, painting and decorating, drainage and guttering, plastering and rendering repairs, calculations and drawings, slabbing and paving, roofing and basic plumbing, health and safety, risk assessments.As part of this study programme students are also required to attend Maths and English functional skills lessons and participate in weekly tutorials.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements however GCSE D or above are preferred. Students will have to undertake an Initial Diagnostic assessment and have successfully completed level 1 multi-skills or level 1 wood or brick City & Guilds Diploma.

Assessment

You will be assessed carrying out a number of practical tasks in the workshop; there will also be in-class verbal and written assessments and a number of on-line assessments for all of your study programme elements (including English and Maths).

Financial information

Students will require stationery equipment, details of which will be given by the tutor.Suitable safety footwear and overalls along with items of personal protective equipment(PPE).

We offer a bursary that students can apply for help with costs that are associated with a course. This could be help with the cost of travel, books, materials, equipment, uniforms, childcare and examination and registration fees. Future opportunities

On successful completion of our course including English and Maths your next step will be to progress onto a trade specific Level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying or Carpentry. This will be in addition to high level of commitment, effort, positive attitude and good attendance (minimum 95%)

Further information

You will be required to attend 3 days per week as this is a full-time course. It is compulsory for you to attend all sessions including English and Maths Functional Skills and Tutorials.
