Art and Design (Product Design) : Level 3 at Gateway College

Course description

This course will develop your specialist skills in product design. You will develop a personal response to ideas and look at the work of established designers, developing a sound understanding of the design process and how to respond to a brief. This will be achieved through research, drawing, designing and illustrating. Research of trends will also be covered, along with the development of techniques including manipulation of mixed media, and designing outcomes using CAD/CAM for production by a 3D printer and laser cutting in a range of materials.

Gateway is known for its end of year exhibition which is open to the public. Your work may feature in this.

This qualification is equivalent to 1 A Level.

Course content

There are a range of extension opportunities for students studying all courses in Art & Design. Study visits such as London Galleries, Craft Galleries, Clothes Show Live, Nottingham Trent University Fashion Show were provided. We also benefit from a programme of visiting speakers and professional workshops carried out by professionals who work in the Art & Design Industry. Each year students participate in creating for the Gateway Fashion Show (December) and display individual Art & Design work in the Summer End of Year Exhibition (June).

Entry requirements

6 GCSEs at grade 9-5 including English Language and Maths. A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 6.

Plus GCSE Art or Design subject at grade C.

Assessment

You will cover seven units over two years. Your work is marked internally and moderated by OCR. There is no written exam.
