Information Technology BTEC Level 3 at St Ivo School

Course description

The course offers students the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and understanding for those clear about the area of employment they wish to enter. The philosophy of this course is to provide an extensive work-related focus and cover key knowledge and practical skills required in the vocational sector. The mandatory Units cover Information Technology Systems, Managing Information with IT systems and Using Social Media in Business. We will also offer Website Production as the optional unit.

Course content

This is a two year course (equivalent to 1 A level). The Extended Certificate consists of 3 mandatory units and 1 optional unit. Assessment is 50% coursework, 25% controlled assessment and 25% exam. Assessments are designed to give credit to what students can do as well as what they know and understand. The controlled assessment allows students to use their knowledge and skills in a particular context. The course is very intensive and because of this student numbers are limited to 16.

Entry requirements

Entry to St Ivo Sixth Form is dependent on attitude to learning and behaviour as well as examination performance. This is set out in a separate document called “Sixth Form Entry Requirements” which is available on the school website. Some subjects will also have subject specific requirements.

Future opportunities

Students who successfully complete the qualification will be well equipped for employment and opportunities to higher education within the same areas of study, within universities or other institutions. Alternatively, the skills acquired are useful in many areas of higher education and employment.
