Art and Design BTEC Level 2 Award at Coulsdon Sixth Form College
This is a one year course intended for students who want to study Art & Design in a college environment but who are not ready for Advanced Level work. The BTEC Level 2 Award in Art & Design qualification provides opportunities for students to develop a range of skills and techniques as well as the personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in their working life.
The course consists of practical projects which have been created to provide students with experience of working to briefs that relate closely to those used in the workplace. Students will look at, and respond to, the work of artists, designers and craftspeople. While working on the series of projects they will experiment with a wide range of materials, techniques and processes.
Students will gain experience in:
- Drawing and painting
- Graphic design and the Adobe Creative Suite
- Digital photography
- Art history
Two 2 and three 3 grades at GCSE including English and Mathematics minimum Grade 2 or equivalent qualifications (a Pass or higher at BTEC Level 2 is accepted as part of the GCSE Grades).
Students must also have a genuine interest in art and design, be prepared to work hard, be willing to learn drawing and computer skills and work independently as well as with others.
There is one externally set unit and three internally set units; work is marked and assessed on completion of each project. At the end of the course students will be given a final grade of Distinction*, Distinction, Merit or Pass which is equivalent to one GCSE at Grades 9 - 4. Students will also hang a final exhibition.
This qualification shows that students can apply concepts and interpret practical briefs. It will provide them with a strong grounding for further study at Coulsdon College on Level 3 Visual Arts courses.
