Media Studies A Level at Beaufort Co-operative Academy
Media Studies is the study of the constantly changing world. We are surrounded by media every day and cannot avoid it. From the moving image, broadcast, print and new digital media, we have access to the media at all times and are increasingly reliant upon it. The AS course is constructed to include elements of practical production and theoretical analysis, which will enable you to experience the world of a media professional. Areas of study include: The three platforms; print, broadcast and NDM (new digital media) across a spectrum of media texts, from film to television to radio to music. The possibilities in Media Studies are endless.
The course is assessed via practical production work and examinations. The AS programme allows you to produce media texts that have been researched and evaluated. Your level of theoretical knowledge will be assessed through examination. A2 is an extension of what has been already learnt where you are able to produce a media text of your choice that can either compliment or challenge an investigated area of the media. You will then be tested on what you have learnt over the two year programme via examination.
Media Studies combines academic with the creative and provides students with a range of transferrable skills that would be beneficial in the workplace. Aside from going on to study Media Studies or Film Studies at University, you could possibly use A Level Media to support an application to study subjects such as: Journalism, Media Communication, Psychology, Philosophy, English Language and Literature. Media Studies can also lead to a wide range of jobs: Journalism, Marketing, Film Making, Banking, Law, Publishing, Broadcasting, TV, Video and Multimedia, Media Research, Political Research or Speech Writing.
