Physical Education A Level at Beaufort Co-operative Academy

Course description

This is a two year course that will build on and develop the knowledge learnt through GCSE PE and Science in particular. The course encompasses topics such as exercise physiology, applied anatomy and physiology, biomechanics, skill acquisition, sports psychology, sport and society and contemporary issues in physical activity and sport. The learning and understanding needed is very high therefore students should be prepared for and have previous experience of high achievement in academic subjects


At the end of the two year course there are three written exams, a 90 mark paper – physiological factors affecting performance and two 60 mark papers – psychological factors affecting performance and socio - cultural issues in physical activity and sport. Each of these papers have a synoptic element requiring knowledge drawn from a number of topics. In total the written exams amount to 70% of the overall mark. In addition students are assessed in the performance or coaching of one practical activity and the evaluation and analysis of performance for improvement (EAPI)
