Philosophy and Ethics A Level at Corfe Hills School

Course description

(G581) A2 Philosophy: Religious Language, Religious Experiences, Revelation through Scripture Miracles, attributes of God, Life after Death and the existence of the Soul.

(G582) A2 Ethics: Ethical Theories including: meta-ethics, conscience, free will and determinism, virtue ethics. Applied ethics including: business ethics, environmental ethics and sexual ethics.

Course content

The key difference between study at AS and study at A2 is that at A2 you will begin to see how inter-related the ideas of philosophy and ethics are.  We will begin to pull the two subjects together through areas such as meta-ethics and religious language.  However, you will also learn about many new idea and shake the very bedrock of philosophy and ethics by questioning whether anything we have studied on this course can really have any meaning.

Assessment

Students will complete two papers in the Summer Term. These are Philosophy (G581) and Ethics (G582). Each paper will require students to complete two essay questions in 90 minutes with 35 marks available for each essay. There will be a choice of questions which will allow students to draw upon their interests and strengths.
